After a couple of months without any regular poker games, Tung kicked off the festivities last week. This week Clare and I kept up the tradition and hosted a game. The player numbers are still low with only Clare, Kylie, Tung and I playing this week. But it was great to catch up and test our wills.
Clare won the night. She took the lead half way through the game by calling Tung's
bluff in an All In. There was no turning back from then. I kept the challenge up right to the end, but I couldn't overcome her massive lead. Kylie also survived to the alarm after coming back from the brink a few times.
Dinner was a Thai Green curry with a mystery meat. After a number of guesses, Tung figured out that it was crocodile. My first attempt at cooking crocodile and I think it turned out pretty well. Its a very easy meat to cook and the challenge is not to overcook it.
The night was more about chatting and catching up than about serious poker. Everyone was engrossed by "So you think you can dance" on TV. Catty comments were flying from all directions.
The funniest moment of the night for me was when Clare stood up and said that she was going to get the rice crisps from Simon's farewell BBQ. Puzzled Tung turned to me and asked whether the chips were so spectacular that Clare had to steal them from Simon. After I finished laughing, I explained to him that she was getting the same type of chips - that we bought at Coles - not the actual chips from Simon's farewell three weeks ago.
Joss also made me laugh when he came down the stairs with his plate and told me that the curry was a little gay. It took me a few seconds to figure out that he meant hot - gai means hot in Vietnamese. Joshua also complained that it was too hot, so I made them both noodles. However when I took their noodles upstairs, I was bemused to see that Joshua had actually finished all of the curry on his plate, but hadn't touched the rice. Was the rice too hot I wonder?
